Summary
Working under the direct administrative and Professional supervision of the Day Program Director and having the primary responsibility for providing Mary Cariola Children's Center with the necessary physical and social adaptive educational programming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilites
Sensitivity to cultural diversity of others Structures and provides a variety of appropriate indoor and outdoor Adaptive Physical Education programming and instruction for individual and group students. Develops appropriate Adaptive Physical Education programming to suit the maturity and skill levels of the students. Provides consultation, support and training for Teachers, Assistants, Volunteers and other professional staff regarding the Adaptive Physical Education program needs for students. Provides consultation to parents, when requested, regarding the Adaptive Physical Education needs of their children within the Agency as well as in the community. Maintains accurate and current records on the children who participate in the Adaptive Physical Education program. This includes sharing behavior and progress information with appropriate Mary Cariola staff. Provides assistance to classroom staff when necessary. Maintains Adaptive Physical Education equipment and supplies, as well as monitoring and training classroom staff in the appropriate use of therapy equipment, keeping safety in mind at all times. Understands and relates to staff and parents, when requested, the psychological and medical characteristics of the student body served by the Mary Cariola Children's Center. Participates in various discipline related meetings and in-service sessions as are deemed necessary by the immediate supervisor or Day Program Director. Provides supervisory and didactic services for area college students interested in pursuing therapy careers. Participates in Agency functions and various community meetings. Coordinates and facilitates student participation in Special Olympics. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities


Qualifications
A Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or related field and valid NYS Certification is required. Prior experience is desirable but not required.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in Physical Education with MS concentration in Adapted Physical Education; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Math Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
