Summary
Assists in the daily living activities of the residents and the routine household maintenance by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites
Sensitivity to cultural diversity of others
Works with children/adolescents on their residential program plan prescribed within and outside the residential setting including necessary lifting, moving and positioning; gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skills; promotes self care, communication, therapeutic feeding and use of therapeutic equipment and cognitive process; assists with ADL, recreational activities and community outings, behavior management programs, data collection and reinforcement systems.
Provides the personal and physical care needed by the residents including tasks such as bathing, toileting, eating and dressing.
Performs housekeeping tasks as designated by the shift supervisor including tasks such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, simple home repairs, clothing repairs and shopping.
Provides the Shift Supervisor with general information regarding residents so as to aid in the development of Individual Residential Program Plans.
Attends part time staff meetings to evaluate and promote effectiveness of both Individual Residential Program Plans and general program, as scheduled or requested by the Senior Manager.
Takes part in prescribed record keeping routines.
Participates in in-service sessions and other meetings upon request.
Implements the fire and emergency procedures and assists with fire drills.
Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and six (6) months to one (1) year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Math Skills
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skills
Must have the ability and temperament to work effectively with children/adolescents who are developmentally disabled. Must possess excellent organizational skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to stand, reach with hands and arms, and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to blood and bodily fluids. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
