Mary Cariola Children’s Center will be missing a very familiar face. After serving the Center as its President/CEO for 22 years of his active 33 years with the organization, Paul C. Scott has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2012.
Mr. Scott started with the agency when he accepted a temporary summer aide job working side-by-side with Mary Cariola in a converted convent on East Avenue. Little did he know that this summer job would lead to a lifetime of dedication to the children in the Rochester area. Mr. Scott has played a pivotal role in helping the agency fulfill its mission of providing the highest quality individualized services for children with developmental delays, especially those with complex or multiple disabilities.
“It has been exciting and rewarding to see the pioneering dream of Mary Cariola become a reality. Even with my upcoming retirement the Center is never far from my heart,” said Mr. Scott.
Through Mr. Scott’s vision and passion, the agency expanded and launched many new initiatives and projects, even in an increasingly regulated financial and service care industry. These include the growth of the school program, the development of the Transition Center, the increase in the number of residential homes and the creation of the nation’s first sensory room for children.
Known for his calmness and grace, he has made a profound difference to the children and parents whom the Center serves. “I have been motivated by the creativity, commitment and skill demonstrated by our staff as they provided services to our children. Our staff is second to none. The love and dedication that is shown to the children and families goes far beyond the requirements of the job.”
Mr. Scott is looking forward to spending more time with his family, especially his three grandchildren who live in Boston.
“I have been blessed to be a part of Mary Cariola Children’s Center and very honored to be its president. I will do whatever I can to help the Center to continue to be vital, effective and successful in the years ahead,” said Mr. Scott.
The agency's mission now includes finding a President who will carry on Mr. Scott's dedication and passionate initiatives. Currently, the organization has appointed a diverse search committee for Mr. Scott's successor.
