Carol Malone
Registered Nurse

“The staff and students make every day fun,” explains nurse Carol Malone. “And every day is different. Even though the schedule is the same, you never know who is going to need you the next minute or what staff member or child is going to walk through the door with a need. That’s what I like – not the same old, same old.”
Carol is a registered nurse and graduate of Monroe Community College. After a variety of nursing experiences from hospitals to home health care, she joined the Cariola nine-person nursing staff five years ago. She works at the Elmwood Campus.
On a typical day she administers medicines according to doctors’ orders, manages tube feedings, and helps coordinate children’s care with other members of the Cariola team. She does primary nursing, oversees medical issues, supports parents and contacts doctors as needed. It is not uncommon to see her running to a classroom if there is an emergency. She also administers flu and other vaccines to staff.
“I like unpredictability,” Carol explains. “I was raised with it. My parents did foster care and over the years, I had 40 foster and adopted siblings. As the original Brady Bunch, we joke that we put the fun in dysfunctional. It was organized chaos all day long. We knew the schedule would be followed, but we never knew who would be along for the ride. My parents’ love was unconditional. I learned tolerance and sharing. Now, I can travel and stay with siblings who live all around the world.”
