Mary in a Minute

A series about individuals making an impact at Mary Cariola

Meet Erin DiCesare

Behavior Department Manager &

Interim Coordinator of Education & Training

A little about me. I met my husband in preschool and now our kids attend the same school where we met. I attended Aquinas Institute and Nazareth College. I received my Masters in Developmental Psychology from Arizona State University; I  received my Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) from University of Massachusetts, Lowell and I’m currently working on my PhD in Organizational Leadership. On the weekends you can find me doing something with my family. I’m most grateful for ….EVERYTHING! I am blessed with a beautiful family and a job I truly enjoy. I couldn’t ask for any more.

I’ve worked at Mary Cariola a little over 11 years. Every day is different and every day is an opportunity to learn new things. The Behavior Department is responsible for conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and developing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) aimed at decreasing challenging behaviors and increasing more appropriate behaviors for our students. The Behavior Team helps classrooms implement these plans on a daily basis. I help ensure regulatory compliance with our behavior practices and align practices across all of our campuses.

When I think about who has influenced me most, it is the co-workers and students I have interacted with over the years. I am a believer that everything happens for a reason. Every conversation, every interaction has influenced me in some way and led me to where I am today.

As we recognize Autism Awareness Month, Mary Cariola continues to stay on top of new research to support our students. Our focus on the use of evidence-based practices at Mary Cariola is remarkable! We are an Agency that prides itself on the use of evidence-based practices and the amount of data and attention to detail for every step of progress along the way with our students is amazing.

I wish people were more aware of how much Mary Cariola Children’s Center cares for its staff as well as its students and families. There are so many professional development opportunities that have become available to staff over the past few years. I am privileged to be part of an Agency like this.
