The Good Mood Dude.

The Good Mood Dude!

The first thing you notice about Jack is his smile.

His teachers call him their "Good Mood Dude," because joy seems to follow him wherever he goes. Every morning, he lights up when his classmates arrive. He squeals with excitement, watches for familiar faces, and lets everyone know he is happiest when his entire preschool class is together.

Jack loves people.

He loves being included. He loves interactions. And thanks to the support he receives at Mary Cariola, he is discovering more ways every day to connect with the world around him.

When Jack arrived at Mary Cariola, many of his abilities were still waiting to be discovered. Today, he communicates his wants and needs, makes choices, raises his hand during circle time, and eagerly participates alongside his classmates.

Jack enjoys classroom interaction, physical therapy, music and occupational therapy, and speech therapy

His journey is powered by an innovative team that sees his potential and helps him build on it every day. Nurses, teachers, therapists, and vision specialists work together to meet his unique needs. After identifying signs of Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), they adapted his classroom with specialized supports that help him better understand and see the world around him. It is this kind of individualized care that is helping Jack achieve more than anyone imagined possible.

One of Jack's favorite things is The Price Is Right. The excitement, lights, colors, and cheering captivate him. What began as a comfort show at home quickly became a favorite in the classroom too. Before long, classmates and staff were celebrating right alongside him. It is just one example of how Mary Cariola learns what motivates each child and builds on those strengths.
