It all started with a mixing bowl and a million dollar smile.
At just ten years old, T.J. lit up during classroom cooking groups at Mary Cariola Center. Measuring ingredients, stirring batter, and helping out his classmates wasn’t just fun—it was the highlight of his day. Cooking gave T.J. a way to contribute, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging.
Year after year, T.J.’s passion for food became the recipe for something bigger. With the right support and a dash of encouragement, his educational team helped turn his passion into his present and future.
Now, at 20 years old, T.J. works two days a week in the cafeteria at Council Rock Elementary School in the Brighton Central School District. In this paid position, he preps meals, packages food, and runs the cash register with pride. His love for cooking has simmered into a career—and his smile says it all. And as T.J. prepares to graduate next June, his future is heating up—in all the right ways. He is currently looking for opportunities that provide classroom instruction, career exploration and hands-on learning to further master his skills for competitive employment.
T.J.’s journey from classroom helper to confident employee is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when our students and residents are supported, encouraged, and believed in. And it’s your generosity that helps set the table for success.
Your support helps build the foundation for people like T.J. Your gift will help individuals with complex disabilities build meaningful skills, discover their strengths, and step into their futures with pride.
Together, we can turn passions into purpose—and smiles into success. From our 450 students, 44 residents, and 750 employees who bring the heart and heat each day—thank you for adding your support to the mix!
